I finally got around to cutting the joinery and assembling the second of the two tabletops I mentioned in previous posts. That said, wood is a fickle material, and sometimes things don’t as smoothly as planned! The panels for this table sat around for over a month and during that time developed a slight warp. This prevented the joints in the center of the box from completely closing. Additional clamps could have solved the problem, but even then I’m not sure how they would have been distributed to deliver the necessary pressure.
As a result I had several joints with significant gaps. Instead of using a wood filler I repaired the joints using wedges made from leftover stock, which were glued and gently hammered into place. Once the glue dried they were sawn off, planed, and sanded.
